My Dirty Secret

Date February 13, 2005

I have a secret.  It’s not something I’m proud of.  But it’s something I must fess up to.

I’ve become addicted to the TV.  I know I’m about 20 years behind (if not more).  I haven’t had cable for a long time now… mostly because I didn’t really find much of value on the ol’ boob tube in the past.  But I signed up for digital cable… and all I can say is DAAAYAM!

Don’t get me wrong… there’s still not a lot of REAL value on the TV.  But there’s a lot of cheap, baser fun to be had with hundreds of channels.  And don’t get me started on video on demand.  I mean… how cool is that?  Movies just sitting around waiting to be watched whenever.

Like I said… I know I’m behind.  But that doesn’t make it any less exciting for those of us who move slowly toward new things.

I haven’t had a TV since 1998; it’s amazing how much more reading, relating, and gardening I get done! My only electronic device is my computer. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to it, but I do spend an average 20 minutes a day checking and responding to email. And when I don’t have to get up early in the morning, I will check into one or both of the blogs I am now following for amusement and/or enlightenment.

    Happy Birthday to your Blog

I’ve become a media multitasker. I lay in bed with a book and watch TV. During the commercials I mute the TV and read. Sometimes I turn the TV on and read with the sound muted while I wait for the show I want to watch to come on.

Of course… I usually get so wrapped up in the book that I end up leaving the television muted and totally miss a show.
