Bad Taste of a Titanic Proportion
July 3, 2005
Wildcat Fireworks has been running ads on TV like mad the past couple of days. No doubt they’re hoping to cash in on some of those last-minute July 4th dollars.
Their advertisement includes pictures of people sliding down a huge inflatable boat with the words “good family fun” flashing on the screen.
As the commercial continues, we find out more about the slide. It’s a giant blow-up slide of the sinking Titanic, complete with ocean at the bottom (the slide is actually tilted up… as the boat would have looked as it sunk into the water). Yes… a tragic event that claimed the lives of over 1000 people has been made into a cheap gimmick to try and sell more fireworks.
I’m tempted to pay a visit to the slide one night… and plaster pictures of the bloated remains of Titanic passengers along the sides of the slide. That way, as people slide down this mockery of one of the world’s worst tragedies, they’ll have a real reason to squeal.
Good family fun? I don’t think so. Sick. That’s what it is.
