Mr. Annoying/Nettlesome/Obnoxious

Date July 14, 2005

I’ve become known as “Mr. Thesaurus” lately. Apparently, I have a tendency to correct people’s incorrect usage of vocabulary. The thesaurus part comes in because I also apparently have a tendency to suggest the correct word that was probably intended.

It’s not even something I consciously do. I mean, I never really realized that I did it until it was pointed out to me. The person who dubbed me “Mr. Thesaurus” actually expects it now and, from what I gather, likes the fact that I am broadening her vocabulary. She even stops mid-sentence to say “What am I trying to say here, Mr. Thesaurus?” on occasion.

But I think that would be annoying if someone did it to me all the time. Am I unconsciously being an annoying ass? How do you rectify something that you don’t even realize you’re doing until it’s already done?
