He’s Baaaack

Remember this guy? He’s back. As of this writing he hasn’t assaulted anyone yet. But I’ll be shocked beyond comprehension if he remains behaved the entire time he’s with us. He’s teetering right on the edge of explosive violence.
He also represents one of the things about my job that frustrates me to no end. You spend days, sometimes weeks, helping people stabilize themselves. You do everything within your power to make sure they leave better off than when they arrive. You literally put your own physical safety on the line to make sure they don’t hurt themselves or get into trouble by hurting someone else.
And then two months later they’re back and just as bad, if not worse, than they were before. All of the previous time and energy was basically for naught. It’s very disheartening sometimes.
I guess I should be focusing on the people who got better… left… and never came back. But since they’re not staring me in the face every day it’s a little more difficult to think about them.
