My Cat Loves Christmas
December 10, 2006
My mom had a birthday Saturday, so I spent the weekend at my parent’s house. There was the obligatory eating out, cake, presents, etc. In addition, we did a little pilfering through mom and dad’s storehouse of Christmas decorations.
One of the things we brought home was a lighted wreath that mom bought and decided she wasn’t going to use. It was still in the packaging and everything, so it was quite a steal. As usual, The Kid was very interested in what we’d brought home (he assumes that some of it is his… so he has to go through all the bags and boxes).
I didn’t want him to mess with the wreath so I put it on the counter in the kitchen. We got everything unpacked, had the lights off, and were retiring for the evening… when we heard a noise come from the kitchen. Apparently The Kid liked the wreath, too. Upon entering the darkened room, we saw this:

Oh… and he’d had a heyday with the Christmas tree while we were gone. The entire lower third was stripped of ornaments. Two were broken and there was glass thrown about. Garland was hanging in very unnatural ways. Every gift back under the tree had been emptied of its contents and there was tissue paper everywhere.
Sometimes I wonder why these cat things are so popular… haha!
This lovely picture will take the place of a Sunday video… I just got home and haven’t had time to find a good one.

Ok, that picture is cute. Took me a second to see the top of the box over his back; I thought he just decided to turn it in to his new kitty bed. I wouldn’t be happy about the destroying of the tree and presents, though. Bad kitty!

Yes… kitty is very, very bad. So bad, in fact, that I sometimes just call him “The Evil”.
Tonight, for instance, he came into my room out of the blue… crawled up on the bed beside me… and clawed me in the arm for no reason.
And then he just looked at me as if he was saying “Yeah… whacha gonna do about it”…

I think that maybe he is feeling a little detached. Maybe you need to spend some quality time with him…read the 3 Little Kittens or The Cat in the Hat and give him 15 minutes of undivided attention every night. If that doesn’t work, lock him in a crate. Works with my kids. ;)

I’ve thought about locking him up before. Especially when he goes pure evil and starts tearing through the house… jumping from one thing to next… scratching and whirling around like the Tasmanian Devil.
But I’m sure he’d find a way to escape. Haha.
