Hello, 2007
January 1, 2007
Life should get a little easier for me starting today. I’ve been writing 2007 on everything for the better half of the last 6 months and sometimes I don’t catch my mistake until it’s too late. For the next 365 days I should be good to go.
For the last two years I’ve opted to avoid the New Year’s resolution that is traditional on this date. The first time I just wasn’t in resolution making mode. Last year I declined the resolution because I never remember to keep them. And this year I realized that with the marvel of the modern internet, I can make a resolution and refer back to it here whenever I need a reminder.
Yeah. It took me over two years of blogging to figure that out. What can I say? Sometimes I’m slow.
While the past two years have been eventful and quite a few things have changed, I’m starting to realize that the basics of my life aren’t changing. Sure… I’ve changed careers, moved, and all that jazz I mentioned in the previous post. But my foundations as a person have remained virtually unchanged for the past 5 years. So while my life is ever-changing…
The person that I am is not.
I’ve decided to embrace that crazy thing they call the New Year’s resolution and see if I can’t make a few changes this year. Now I can’t say that I’ll be rocking my soul to the core in the course of one year, but I can start small and see how it goes. Goals should be obtainable if they’re to serve a purpose. Who wants to set lofty expectations for themselves that only make them feel unsuccessful when they are never met? So on that note, I give you:
My Goals for 2007:
- Pay attention to my health
- Make new friends
- Contribute something to society
- Learn a new skill
- Visit a new place
I know what you’re thinking. Those are very broad and very generic goals. But, sadly, they are all things I never do. And since I’m starting small, I think it’s a good place to get the ball rolling. I should get a jump on #3 tomorrow, too… ever after the horror of the last time… I’m donating blood again. Hopefully I can avoid another Becky this time.
I’m bookmarking this post specifically so that I can refer back to it as a reminder throughout the coming year. Since this is the first year that I can remember making a New Year’s resolution, it should be interesting to see how it goes. And, of course, there is the whole “publicness” of posting it here. If I don’t meet my goals, my world of 8 people or so will know about it.
So here’s to a year of change (hopefully).
Hello, 2007. It’s nice to meet you.

Visiting a new place and contributing something to society are both really good resolutions!! I may have to add them to my list. So far I have lose weight and giving up tequila..haha. I think I need something realistic to add to it anyhow =P

Haha. No guarantees on the weight and the tequila, huh?

Keep in mind that your world of 8 people may be small, but those people are quite ruthless.
Resolve to stick to your resolutions … for safety’s sake.

No I plan on keeping those as well… but losing weight seems to be my resolution every year… if I actually stick to it, I can stop the repetitive cycle…lol

But then you’d have to think up all new resolutions every year!

Don’t worry about number 3!
You’ve gained 10 years credit for your time spent at your previous job. ;

Haha. True. So then that means you’ve got like 50 years of credit, right?

I had a nice surprise related to #1. My cholesterol went down 35 points since the last time I donated. Not too shabby and a good start to 2007, huh?

Thank ya… thank ya. I’m quite pleased with myself as well!
