Oh I completely agree. We love to see others in torment. I used to deny my own fascination with it... in that case I used reality TV as the springboard of the conversation.

But one of the best things about writing here is that, over time, I've become more self-aware and more honest. And I, too, enjoy a good dose of torment from time to time. Haha.

It's part of being human. We can either embrace it or continue to fight it. And that won't help in the long run.

Have you noticed that we all, to some extent, take pleasure in seeing light violence and light pain being inflicted on others? I'm pretty sure most of us have a kind heart, but we all laugh when the character in the comedy show trips or runs blindly into a post, correct?

I remember going to one of those 3D animation presentations. We were half an hour into the presentation, and there was not a word or sound from the audience. Some of us were yawning by then. The presentor drew up a crow and was showing us how to animate it. He had it walking on the power line when suddenly it fried itself. The audience suddenly came alive and everyone was laughing. Now you tell me, we don't enjoy seeing pain.

I almost became one of these this morning. While carrying two fountain drinks from the gas station across the parking lot at work, I slipped on ice... stumbled around... and almost fell.

As you now know, I laughed too. But I honestly did feel really bad for the guy. I wish I could have helped him.

"A guy on crutches who was attempting to tie a headboard to the roof of his car without any help. He attempted to run string through the open windows of his car to attach the headboard. Instead, he ended up tying all of his doors shut. "

I'm sorry, but that is totally funny! I actually laughed out loud at that one. And I'm sure once he got over the fact that he spent all that time tieing all of his doors shut, he laughed a little, too!
