If you’ve ever tried to figure out the name of a song that’s stuck in your head… or heard on the radio… or remembered from an old memory… the Internet may have the answer. I ran across a new search engine called Midomi that actually lets you whistle, hum, or sing what you know of a song so it can identify it.
That’s right… you hum or sing… and it tells you what song you’re thinking about.
It’s pretty accurate, too! But the best part about Midomi is the ability to listen to what other people have done. A lot of brave souls have allowed their recordings to be published on the site. When you do a search, Midomi tries to guess the song, tells you who the original artist is, and then gives you the ability to listen to other people’s humming and/or singing of the same song.
It’s fun to play with. Even if you don’t ever really need to use it… it’s certainly fun to play with!

That’s really awesome! I, however, don’t have a microphone…so I use songtapper (http://www.bored.com/songtapper/index.html). All you do is tap the tune of the song with your space bar and BAM..they pull it up for you. It’s pretty accurate as well…and if the song you want isn’t showing up on the list then you can add it yourself. :)
Wow… you’re right! That thing is surprisingly accurate. Midomi is more about entertaining yourself listening to other people sing. It’s like American Idol tryouts on demand! Haha.
Yeah I started messing around with this site and now I’m hooked! The search is very surprising as far as how accurate it is, even when you’re just humming a tune. And listening to the user submissions is just plain addictive. I’ve even sung a few myself :)
Haha. Listening to other folks is by far my favorite thing to do with it. But I’m sure the next time I really need to know what a song is I’ll give it a try.
That is totally cool. I’ll try that next time I can’t think of the lyrics or the name of a song. There are also other ways you can identify a song. I wrote a review of the three major sites that help you identify a song on my blog.
