It’s Alive… IT’S ALIVE!
February 20, 2007
I know… I know… it’s been a few days. My apologies. I’ve been a little preoccupied over the past few days. As strange as this might sound, I’ve been reading. Like real books and stuff. Yeah. Haha. Maybe that’s not as strange for some people as I’m making it out to be.
But for me it’s kind of a big deal.
Way back in the day, before my seven year college stint, I was a reading whore. I couldn’t read enough. In fact, I attribute my self-proclaimed grasp of the English language to the number of books I used to read. I’ve even said that the best way to learn English is to read it. Classes are great and all. But reading is the key. In my opinion.
I don’t know if it was all the forced reading I had to do in college - or just the lack of time that I got used to - but I stopped reading. I’ve tried to rekindle my reading addiction a couple of times since getting out of school. I even managed to get through a book or two. But nothing like I used to.
Until now.
Granted, it’s only been a few days. But since Friday I’ve tore through two books and just started my third tonight. First came Running With Scissors. I’ve been looking at it on the shelf at Borders for months. I finally decided to pick it up. And I read through it almost non-stop in a matter of two days. Inspired, I also picked up Cell, a newish paperback from Stephen King. And I just finished it tonight. Now I’ve moved on to Think.
I’ll be writing up some reviews of all three shortly. But that’s not the purpose of this post. I’m just really excited to have discovered that the reading whore inside me is still alive and kicking. I’d honestly forgot how much I love reading… especially when I get really wrapped up in the book.
But I might have to slow down. ‘Cause I’m completely out of the book loop and have no idea what to read next. Think won’t last more than a few days (unless it turns out to be garbage).
Got any ideas? What’s out on bookshelves these days that just has to be read?
