Are You a Chatty Kathy or the Walking Dead?

Date August 11, 2007

When dealing with other people, who do you find easier to handle:

  • Overly chatty, hyperactive types that seem to bounce from one thing to another
  • Daria-like zombie types that aren’t interesting in anything

I usually find myself smiling at the Chatty Kathy folks… and frowning at the walking dead. A few years ago I probably would have said the exact opposite. The chatty types used to bug me. The quiet, uninterested types didn’t because I really never noticed them.

Now I find myself noticing the people who zombie-walk through life more than I do the hyper chatty folks. It’s strange, too… because some folks would probably consider me more the zombie type anyway. My own interpretation is a bit different: I continue to assert that I exist between these two extremes.

What about you? Which are you: Chatty Kathy or Walking Dead? Who do you find it easier to deal with? Which do you prefer to deal with?

I used to be the zombie type. For a few years now, I’ve become the chatty type. I’ve become a more open person now. I judge people less. I’m more willing to accept other people’s opinion. I try to see the world from other people’s view before I argue with them. I relief my stress by expressing myself vocally and in written format.

As to which type is easier to deal with, I would say that it depends on whether I get along with a particular person. If someone is chatty and annoying, then I tend to stay away from them. If someone is zombie like and nice, then I’ll always try to find a subject to hopefully get them to talk more.

It’s no secret which one I am. I don’t really get bothered by people who walk around like a zombie, but sometimes I feel sorry for them and the “I hate the world” look on their face.

Just started reading your blog and I bookmarked it; some refreshing views and opinions here!

I would consider myself a mix of the two as well. I don’t want to be too quiet, but I don’t want to appear as someone who needs to be speak about things just to hear their own voice.
