To Suck… Or Not to Suck? That is the Question

I can’t wait to see this movie. I’ve been following the websites and blogs about it for months. Hell… I even switched shifts at work so that I could be off on opening night. Since I’m so excited about seeing it… I have a feeling it will suck. That’s just how things normally go.
But man I’m hoping it doesn’t. It looks like it could be an original twist on an old story:
- Big monster
- The destruction of New York
- People running around screaming
- The shaky “I made this at home” cinematography
Ya know… if I was a big movie watcher… I’d never even think about visiting New York - let alone living there. How many times has that city been destroyed on the big screen? 5? 15? 100?
Hopefully The Big Apple’s destruction on 1-18-08 will be just as exciting as the others…
- The Self Esteem Setup
- Quiet on the Outside
- Surprise! I Have No Friends
- Letting It All Hang Out
- Why “Why?” Is Not Your Enemy

It most definitely could suck … but I figure after following (and enjoying) the very clever & entertaining marketing ploys for six months, the least I can do for the filmmakers is buy a ticket to go see the film!

Having J.J. Abrams associated does remove some of the suckiness potential, although it looks like there are some cool special effects and decent characters. Looks a bit like a documentary style thing, not sure about the shaky camera… cheesy? Let us know what you think. I’ll be checking the ratings.

The shaky camera bit has me a little concerned. I usually like the more grandiose view of a camera outside the action. It never fails that something I want to see is outside the frame of the documentary-style hand held approach.
Hopefully it’s not another Blair Witch that the people filming conveniently never catch on film. If there’s a giant monster eating New York, I wanna see what the bastard looks like! Haha.

Well … did it suck? :)

No… no it did not. It was awesome ;) But I think you already knew that!
I plan on doing a follow-up on it, of course. But I was thinking I’d see it one more time before I did. Maybe I won’t. I haven’t decided yet.

OK? I thought it totally sucked! I didn’t like the whole shakey camera thing they had going on. It was too Blair Witch. The monster was some giant spider with a serpent head? And I did not see what ever it was that was supposed to have fallen in the water at the end. I felt a little dumber for having watched it. I would have felt worse if I actually paid to watch it though. The movie took too long to get into, they could have cut out the first 10 minutes and maybe so many people wouldn’t have left the theatre. It wasn’t thrilling at all because after Miss Liberty’s head landed outside the dude’s apartment, it was pretty obvious people were just going to ‘run for their lives’ for the remainder of the movie. AND if you get blown apart by a bomb and die, what are the chances the video camera would survive?

This is one of those movies that people either love (like myself) or hate (like you). I told several people at work to go watch it and so far two have. One didn’t care for it that much and one told me yesterday that she thought it was “awesome”. So I guess it’s really a toss-up as to whether or not folks will like it.
The camera was kinda Blair Witch-ish, I agree. But at least the camera in Cloverfield caught some interesting stuff on film. The one in Blair Witch could have been pointed at an ant hill and been more interesting. I missed the falling object at the end, too. But I didn’t know about it beforehand (although I do know a little something about what it was supposed to be). And you’re right… a cheap, plastic camera wouldn’t survive a bomb blast.
That being said… why do you feel dumber for having watched it? :P Do you feel dumber after watching every movie you don’t like… or just this one? And if so, I’d love to know why. That’s funny! Haha.
Have you seen the second Elizabeth movie yet?

No, I don’t feel dumber after every movie I watch that I don’t like, but I only watched it because there was so much hype about it and I thought ‘wow, it must be something worth seeing.’ Now that I’ve seen it, it wasn’t this cool thing that I thought it was going to be. But I can see how people either love it or hate it.
Anyways…
No, I haven’t seen the 2nd Elizabeth yet, and I’m very sad that I haven’t. The last few months were pretty rough around here, so seeing a movie was pretty far from my mind. But I hear it didn’t get very good reviews. Have you seen it? Was it good? I am definately going to rent it though.
Hope all is well with you:))

No… I haven’t seen the new Elizabeth movie either. I think I’ll just buy the damn thing and get it over with.
If you see it let me know what you think!!
